What is Botox?
Botox is a natural, purified protein that relaxes wrinkle causing muscles creating an improved appearance.
How does Botox work?
Many facial wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to make repeated facial expressions. Botox is used to relax specific facial muscles that cause expression lines. Once the muscles are relaxed, you cannot contract them and continue to make the undesirable facial expressions. Thus the lines gradually smooth and new lines are prevented from forming.
What does treatment with Botox involve?
It is a non-surgical treatment whereby a small amount of Botox is injected into selected facial muscles by your doctor using a very fine needle. Generally , Botox treatment for glabellar frown lines takes around 10 minutes. Discomfort is typically minimal and brief, and no anaesthetic is usually required. The injection may sting for a few seconds but normal aci=tivities can be resumed soon after. After the injection, it takes 2-3 days for Botox to begin taking effect and about 7 days to see the full effect. The dose recommended for the treatment of frown lines will vary depending on your individual situation an the severity of your frown lines. Your doctor will know what the best dose is for you and which muscles to inject to give you the best results.
How long does Botox last?
The effect can last up to 4 months before lines slowly begin to return. If you have repeat Botox treatments, the effect tends to last longer.
Does Botox cause more wrinkles to form?
Botox relaxes the facial muscles that cause expression lines. it does not cause more wrinkles to form. If you choose not to have further Botox treatments your muscles will eventually return to normal activity and your wrinkles will gradually revert to their pre- treatment levels.
Will facial expression be affected by Botox?
Botox works specifically on the muscles treated. This means that any muscle left untreated, including untreated facial muscles, should not be affected by Botox. Your doctor will determine the best dose for you and which muscles to inject to give you the best results.
Are there any side affects?
In addition to its use for cosmetic reasons, Botox is also used to treat patients of most age groups in a variety of therapeutic indications including cerebral palsy in children, movement disorder (head, neck, shoulder, face) and axillary hyperhidrosis ( excessive under arm sweating). In the amounts used for the treatment of frown lines, the side effects are usually temporary and localized to the area of injection. Possible side effects include headaches, pain, burning, bruising or redness at the injection site, local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids, lack of feeling, skin tightness and nausea.
Can Botox be combined with other products and procedures?
Many people use a combination of cosmetic products and/or procedures with Botox. Your doctor will advise you as to whether or not you will receive better results if Botox is combined with other products and/or procedures.

CPL/IPL (Controlled OR Intense Pulse Light)
This method of treatment is applied through the use of light converting to heat, at which stage the pigmented area (being the hair, capillary, sunspots or pigmentation) are targeted and treated. a very safe and comfortable measure of treatment using our unique 'chill tip' which enables maximum comfort in the region being treated. a small series of treatents are required with each concern and a comprehensive consult and patch test are performed prior to treatment.
Hair Removal
The IPL laser is based on the laser picking up the pigment of the hair to be removed, any tan will lesson the ultimate result. Therefore it is imperative that you have little or no tan on the skin. Hair Removal is done every 4-6 weeks and you can shave between treatments. The hair becomes weaker and finer after each treatment. And then falls out and stops growing. You may have an occasional stray hair grow back over the following years, and in this case a touch up will keep this under control.
Skin Rejuvenation
The same principle applies with Skin Rejuvenation, as the IPL laser is based on the laser picking up the pigment to be removed, any tan will lesson the ultimate result, therefore it is imperative that you have little or no tan on the skin.
All skin treatments receive free collagen treatments when we treat: facial capillaries, sunspots and pigmentation.
Usually approx. 2-4 treatments are required to treat the area of concern.
There will be a preiod of 5-7 days where you may need to conceal the treated area.

How does it work? What can it do for you?
Microdermabrasion works by stimulating the skin healing process. A fine abrasion, coupled with suction, gently removes loose, dead and diseased cells and also empties out blocked pores in a manner similar to a vacuum cleaner. This improved circulation brings oxygen and nutrients to refresh and regenerate your skin, and allows for the proper discharge of oil.
The removal of plugs and thickened areas of skin also allows skin medications to be better absorbed.
With repeated treatments this results in a smoothing of skin surface irregularities such as lines, scarring, sun damage and acne.
Who can benefit from Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is effective for the treatment of acne, fine lines, open pores on the face, surgical scars, any raised scar and even keloid scars, as well as rough, sun-damaged skin.
While there are very few situations when microdermabrasion cannot be used, one is where the drug Roaccutane has been used recently. We will advice you on this issue.
What happens in a typical treatment? What will you feel during treatment?
Microdermabrasion can take as little as a few minutes to up to an hour depending on the size of the area being treated and is effectively a “lunch time” treatment. No anaesthetic is required and you will usually be treated reclining comfortably.
How will you feel after treatment?
Microdermabrasion is normally carried out without any anaesthetic. Some of our patients have reported finding it pleasant in the knowledge that it is improving the health of their skin. When treatment is completed the skin has a red healthy glow due to the increased circulation. This usually settles down to a normal healthy look within a day or so.
Because such a fine layer of skin is removed there is no bleeding.
When will you see results? What do you need to do after the treatment to ensure the best result?
The full result will not be evident until the fresh new skin growth stimulated by the treatment covers the area. The usual recovery time for a completely normal skin appearance is around 24 hours.
How many sessions are necessary?
This depends on the therapist’s diagnosis and the nature of your problem but we usually find a series of 5-10 treatments to be effective.

How Laser Tattoo Removal works
Our Laser is the treatment of choice for tattoo removal as it has the ability to remove the tattoo pigment completely without leaving any scarring. Face The Art uses uses the latest Q-Switched, Nd:YAG Laser which can remove tattoos containing black, dark and light blue, green and red pigments.
This specific laser is designed to produce one or more specific wavelengths of light. These wavelengths are either absorbed, reflected, or simply pass through objects. Tattoo ink is removed by using a specific wavelength which passes through the skin but is absorbed by the ink.
The rapid absorption of light energy causes destruction of the tattoo ink, and it is removed by the body's natural filtering systems.
Treatment information
The Q-Switched, Nd:YAG laser emits light in very short flashes of light called pulses. The impact of the energy from the powerful pulse of light is similar to the snap of a thin rubber band or specks of hot bacon grease on the skin. A large majority of patients do not require anesthesia. You may return to work immediately. There is no down time for this procedure.
On average, professional tattoos require 5-6 treatments or even more, while amateur tattoos require 3-4 treatments, all spaced approximately one month apart. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink used and the depth of the ink in the skin. Rarely, even more than ten treatments may be needed.
Do all colors of ink disappear equally as well?
No. Dark (blue/black) inks and red inks fade the best. Oranges and purples usually respond well. Lime green and yellow inks are the most difficult to remove, although additional treatments can produce significant fading.
